2009 is a Zen year! Announcing BD-theme Zen

Monday, January 5th, 2009

2008 has been a

chaotic, beautiful, uncertain, loving, annoying, sad, inciting, exciting, claustrophobic, happy, insecure, agoraphobic, free, ugly, closed, wild, lonely, impetuous, serene, safe

year for me. It has been a year of changes.

I would like to enter this new year in a Zen way. I would like 2009 to be a year of tranquillity and serenity.
I want to free me from heavy, non-important details. I want to be more minimalist.

I want to focus on essence rather than on appearence.

While I'm preparing to act in this way, you can enjoy mi first step, the most easy one: a new Wordpress theme.
You can see BD-theme Zen working on my blog, but you can also download it and modify it under the Gnu GPL license (v.3)

Enjoy.

Fedora 10, thank you very much! (macbook review and fixes)

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

I've never been a big fan of rpm-based Gnu/Linux distributions, since I've always preferred the stability of Debian and Debian based distros, with their great dpkg system.
The problem with Debian on Macbooks is that I do not see both the stability and performance anymore, as I have to use Lenny/Sid. Etch is too old and I don't have the time (*sic*) to play with it to make it work well. Lenny should be next to be released but I don't feel the very famous stability AND lightness of Debian distributions on this release, like I was accustomed in the past years. Is this because I own a Macbook? Maybe, but a Macbook Santa Rosa is nothing more than an Intel-powered notebook with some strange input devices and a strange non-bios system :-)

Regarding Ubuntu, I believe that this distribution has become naff and really slow. See this Slashdot discussion on this topic.

Yesterday I stumbled to Scientechie review of Fedora 10, which convinced me to try it out.
The software shipped with Fedora 10 is aligned with the one provided with the other distributions: Gnome 2.24.0, kernel 2.6.27.5, NetworkManager 0.7.0 (svn) and so on. Read the release notes for more information.

Fedora 10 really surprises me, as it is the first Gnu/Linux distribution in many, many years that makes me feel again the great stability and performance of the Penguin. Therefore I'm writing this review that is also a how-to, as it contains some fixes for Fedora 10 and Macbooks.

Testing Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) beta on a Macbook (updated!)

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

It's a very long time since I abandoned Ubuntu, 1 year and 9 months being precise, although I continued to use Ubuntu derived distros.
I decided today to give Ubuntu 8.10 beta a try. Obviously, every time I decide to try a Gnu/Linux distribution it happens that a new release comes out: I downloaded Alpha 6 yesterday, I fell into problems with it and a apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade brought me Ubuntu 8.10 beta, correcting some of them :-)

bd-things.net, let’s start from 826423

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

In just three days the new domain from my blog (and things) has changed its status from "new site" to position 826423, according to Netcraft! This is surely because of the redirection of daniel.graziotin.net (which was near top 30k) to bd-things.net. I would like to reach top 50k in less than one year, and how couldn't I start in a better way than creating a new bd-thing? Stay tuned, I may decide to announce it tomorrow

New domain: from daniel.graziotin.net to bd-things.net

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

As I previously announced, I purchased a brand new domain for my stuff.
The blog is changing during the months, becoming more than a blog but less than a site.
That's because I decided to buy the domain BD-things.net, because this site contains all of my things, files, thoughts, projects, publications.
The old address daniel.graziotin.net now redirects permanently here and every link should have been updated/rewritten. Please contact me if you encounter problems.
I also took BD-blog.net which points here, too, but I won't renew it the next year.
Some things are different now, but you won't notice it ;)
I obviously lost my decent position at Netcraft's Most Visited Web Sites rank list, but I don't care. It will be funny to advance with the new domain and reach a even better position!
I hope there will be a new beginning and a brand new life with BD-things!

BD-blog enters top 50000 most visited web sites

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

According to Netcraft, BD-blog recently broke the wall of top 50k in the most visited web sites. And finally, the RiskRating of the url reached score 0 (I don't know why, but it had a minimum RiskRating for almost two years).
Anyway, here is the screenshot of the site rank:

I'm so happy about it! :D
